Fiesta San Antonio 2013

Each year hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country line the banks of the San Antonio River to view the most unusual parade in America … the Texas Cavaliers River Parade! This year's parade, entitled Stars On The River, promises an evening of family fun with live music, celebrities and lights. More than 40 festively decorated floats sponsored by local community organizations and military installations drift down the San Antonio River. Spectators party up and down the river to the accompaniment of singers, musicians and live bands. King Antonio XCI reigns over the evening's festivities and gives a Texas-sized welcome to the enthusiastic spectators along the winding route. In addition to producing the River Parade, the Cavaliers support the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation, which disburses funds to various charitable organizations with an emphasis on helping the children of our community. Admission: $12-$24, Tickets at The Fiesta Store For advance tickets or more information visit www.texascavaliers

Fiesta is vibrant and vivid - and so is the clothing! So, grab the most colorful items in your closet and your sash for your medal collection. And, if you really want to wow the Fiesta crowd, the more extravagant your hat, the better. Dress for beautiful warm weather (check San Antonio weather here), in confetti-welcoming garb and don't forget your sunscreen. You'll do a lot of walking, and perhaps a lot of dancing, so we recommend comfortable shoes. Need more ideas on what to wear?

Men: colorful button up shirt- khaki chino- straw hat (lots of sun exposure) walking shoes

For Fiesta at work: My Husband wore tan chino pants, a pink oxford button up, a silk Ivy league stripe tie in white, cherry red, and wine red, brown brown leather belt, matching soft suede shoes, and of course the all necessary metal, a tie clip

Women: skirt or dress that highlights your waist or legs (choose one) bright color on bottom and matching solid color on top- large hoop earrings, straw hat (decorated with flowers or a scarf all bright vivid colors) sensible walking shoes

What I really plan to wear: Straw wide brim hat purchased from Target, with brim monogram (custom ordered) thread in warm teal, silk blouse medium blue, 3/4 a-line skirt with slanted wide stripes in white, and navy with a hint of orange purchased from Old Navy 2 years ago, it has a high waist with a 3 inch wide navy band that looks like a wide belt and highlights my small waist. Tory Burch gold bar sandals in tan. Rose gold chain mesh medium sized hoop earrings from Target. Haven't decided on a small clutch bag or my Rebecca Minkoff Mac cross-body.

Transportation
Parking is at a premium downtown. Spaces are hard to come by, traffic is heavy, and many parking lots only take cash. If you do decide to drive and find a place to park, make note of where you’re leaving your car so that you can easily find it afterward. Better yet, grab a cab for a stress-free ride (estimate fares and call a taxi here.)

Cash
All official Fiesta events are sponsored by local non-profit organizations, and they deal in cash for admission tickets and food and beverages, so bring plenty of cash.

Restrooms
Although Porta-Potties are plentiful at Fiesta events, expect to stand in line, so plan accordingly. It’s smart to carry some toilet paper and hand sanitizer with you.

Recycling/Trash
Look for recycling and trash containers to dispose of waste at Fiesta events.

Handbags
Having your hands free to hold food and drink means that your handbag should have a long strap to sling across your body, or improvise some other solution.

What in the world is a cascarone?
These colorful eggshells are filled with confetti and are for sale all over Fiesta. Break one in your hand over someone’s head to show you care.

Why does everyone have medals pinned all over them?
It's a long standing tradition, among many locals, to obtain and wear as many Fiesta medals as possible. You'll see some folks wearing their weight in medals, fastened to sashes and hats. It's a point great pride to San Antonions, so feel free to compliment them. Buy a Fiesta medal at the official Fiesta store.

Etiquette
Desired compliments on elaborately decorated hats and on the metals worn

Quirky
From the family-friendly Fiesta Pooch Parade and King William Fair Parade to the bawdy Fiesta Frenzy and Cornyation, these offbeat events guarantee a great time.
